The Night Before the Wedding Day
Often overlooked, you have the responsibility of making sure your groom is fresh, hangover free and ready for the big day to follow. Here’s what you should do:
- Get an early night!
- Avoid the vindaloo’s, spicy food or anything which may upset the groom’s stomach for the next day. Wedding’s and wind do not make a marriage made in heaven.
- The same goes for garlic, the bride-to-be wount be happy being kissed by a garlic smelling fiend.
- No means no, don’t give into the grooms last minute temptation’s.
The Morning of the Wedding Day?
This is the crucial moment for you to stand up and take your best man glory. You have to get your groom to the church / registry office on time and looking his best (the stag party pranks are long gone, this is the serious bit, the pressure is on!).
So your about to leave for the church / registry office (with plenty of time to spare), what do you have to do?
- Double check you have the wedding rings and that they are in a safe place.
- Make sure the groom goes to the toilet and empties the little sailor.
- Check the groom’s fly is up.
- Give the groom’s appearance a once over, pay special attention to the ears (shaving cream), nose (trimmed and clear?) and the teeth (no bits of toast, etc)
- If the groom has written vows, make sure that he has them.
- Put on your polished shoe’s and check the groom’s laces, we don’t want to see the groom trip up on his way down the aisle.
- Give the groom a prep talk, put his nerves to rest.
- Check you have the wedding rings once more.
- Make sure the oven’s off, the baths not running, then proceed to lock the door.
- Get to the church on time!
The Wedding Ceremony
Well done, you’ve made it this far! you can now take it easy and engage in a little eye flirting with the bridesmaids (and if the wife / girlfriend spots you, let her know that as the best man it’s part of your duty). Just remember to be alert when the point comes and you are asked to present the wedding rings.
